Tiruchi city police and HDFC Bank are partnering in a road safety awareness initiative launched here on Monday.

Christened Traffic Paadasalai, the three-day initiative that concludes on September 11 aims to make city roads safer by creating awareness on the do’s and don’ts of road safety.

The event was launched by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Traffic South Range, A. Arunachalam along with L. Devarajan, Cluster Head, HDFC Bank, with volunteers embarking on an awareness rally.

Volunteers and HDFC bank employees will create awareness by positioning themselves at major locations in the next two days covering Central Bus Stand, Gandhi Market signal, Marakkadai, Ayyappan Temple Roundabout, Srirangam and railway station junction to encourage public to follow road safety rules.

While the volunteers will reward motorists found observing traffic rules, violators will be enrolled in the Traffic Paadasalai. They will drive home messages of wearing helmet and seat belt while driving, adhering to signals and lane discipline, desisting from using mobile phone while driving, avoiding drunken driving and having all necessary documents, a release from the bank said.

Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Devarajan said the bank was excited to partner with Tiruchi city police in the initiative. The initiative was the need of the hour, as the city was witness to accidents and casualties.
