Parts of Tiruchi city witnessed mild showers for the second consecutive day on Thursday.

The mild showers around the airport and other parts of the city helped bring down the day-time temperature. The city has been experiencing sweltering heat over the past few days. Significantly, the drought prone Manapparai received some welcome showers on Wednesday.

Samayapuram recorded the maximum of 71 mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday.

The rainfall recorded in other parts of the district during the same period were: Devimangalam 52, Manapparai 33, Thuvakudi 29, Lalgudi 25.30, Vathalai Anicut 22, Ponnaniyar Dam 19.40, Tiruchi Town 20, Ponnaniyar Dam 19.40, Navalur Kottapattu 19.20, Tiruchi Junction 19, Musiri 18, Nandhiyar Head 17.20, Tiruchi Airport 15.30, Golden Rock 10.

Several parts of the neighbouring district of Thanjavur also received heavy to moderate rain during the same period with Lower Anicut recording 155 mm of rainfall. Manjalaru recorded 73 mm followed by Thiruvidaimaruthur 62, Vallam 34, Thirukattupalli 33.10, Grand Anicut 25 and Kumbakonam 17.60 mm. Pudukottai town registered 30 mm of rainfall during the same period.
