CHENNAI:

Chief minister and DMK president M K Stalin on Sunday called on DMDK president Vijayakant, who has not been keeping good health for the last couple of years, at his residence in the city.

As if honouring Stalin’s gesture, Vijayakant handed over a cheque for Rs 10 lakh towards Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to be utilized for Covid mitigation measures.

Accompanied by senior party leaders S Durai Murugan and A Raja, Stalin enquired about Vijayakant’ health condition. The DMDK leader’s wife and party treasurer Premalatha and her brother L K Sudeesh were present along with Vijayakant’s two sons. DMDK termed the visit as a “courtesy call”.

As a political party since its launch in 2005, DMDK had either contested on its own or aligned with parties opposing the DMK. While in 2011 assembly election and 2019 Lok Sabha polls, it had aligned with the AIADMK, the party was part of the BJP alliance in 2014 and with People’s Welfare Front for 2016 assembly election.
