Tragedy struck a wedding celebration in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra district as a dispute over the choice of a song led to a fatal clash, resulting in the death of a 57-year-old man allegedly at the hands of his brother-in-law and several accomplices.
The victim, identified as Ram Baran Singh, had just bid farewell to his daughter Madhu after her wedding ceremony on Sunday. However, the joyous occasion turned grim on Monday morning as Baran prepared for his daughter’s bidaai, marking her departure from her parental home.
According to police reports, an argument erupted between Baran and his brother-in-law, Raju Singh, over the selection of a song played by the hired band during the wedding festivities. Matters escalated quickly, with Raju and his associates, including his son and four nephews, reportedly launching a violent assault on Baran using iron rods and stones.
Despite attempts by bystanders to intervene and rescue Baran, they too were targeted and assaulted by the assailants. Anil Singh, the younger brother of the deceased, filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Fatehabad police station, naming five individuals, including Raju Singh, as the main accused in the incident.
Speaking to reporters, Rakesh Kumar Chauhan, the in-charge of Fatehabad police station, confirmed ongoing efforts to apprehend the suspects through raids but noted that no arrests had been made thus far.
Anil Singh recounted the harrowing ordeal, stating, “They carried iron rods and stones and attacked my brother with them. We rushed to rescue him but we were also assaulted. We took our brother to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.”
Initial investigations revealed that while elders in the family had initially managed to pacify the dispute between Baran and Raju, the latter returned the following morning with his son and nephews, armed with weapons, to exact revenge.
The tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of how conflicts, even over seemingly trivial matters, can escalate into fatal violence, casting a shadow over what should have been a joyous occasion for the newlyweds and their families.
