Trichy: To stop the mixing of sewage in the Trichy Uyyakondan drain, the farmers descended into the drain and started a sudden protest. Farmers sudden protest

Tamil Nadu Farmers Association (Non-Party) and 7 farmers belonging to public welfare organizations led by district president M. P. Chinnadurai suddenly descended on the Uyyakandan canal near Trichy Court at 11 am yesterday and started a protest.

In the protest, funds should be immediately allocated and implemented for the protection of rivers including Trichy Ariyar, Koraiyar, Old Order, New Order, Uyyakondan, Kudamurutti Kodingal.

Various demands were emphasized, including that sewage should be prevented from mixing in the Uyyakondan canal. Government hospital police who got the information rushed there and held talks. Following the disagreement, West Tahsildar Rajavelu, Municipal Corporation Assistant Commissioner Satish Kumar and Public Works Department officers rushed to the spot and negotiated with them and invited them to come out of the canal and come to the shore.

But they came and raised slogans with black flags urging them to stop the mixing of sewage in the Uyyakondan canal. After a long time after the authorities continued to pacify them, they gave up their protest and came ashore at 2.45 am. The incident created a stir in the area for a while.
