Militants on Friday morning abducted three policemen from their homes and later shot them dead in south Kashmir’s Shopian. A brother of one of the policemen was also abducted but released later

An official told The Hindu that locals found the bullet-ridden bodies of the policemen in Lamni-Wangam village in Shopian. “A team of security forces is in the area,” said the police.

Policeman’s brother released

The slain policemen were identified as Firdous Ahmad Kuchey and Kuldeep Singh, both residents of Batgund Shopian, and Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, resident of Kapran. Nisar Ahmad is the brother of Fayaz Ahmad.

The police said an operation was on to trace the militants.

The incident comes two days after some youth made announcements in local mosques in Shopian, asking policemen to quit their jobs.

The killings come as Jammu and Kashmir prepares for the urban local bodies elections from October 8.
