Trichy: A welfare program assistance ceremony on behalf of the Disabled Persons Welfare Department was held at the Trichy District Collector’s office yesterday morning. The function was presided over by District Collector Pradeep Kumar. Central Zone Police J.G. Karthikeyan and Municipal Police Commissioner Sathyapriya took the lead. District Revenue Officer Abirami welcomed. Municipal Administration Minister K.N. Nehru and School Education Minister Anbil Maheshpoiyamozhi were present as special guests and gave 60 beneficiaries Rs.50 lakhs worth of linked wheeled motorcycles. Later, the ministers launched the battery car purchased at a cost of Rs.4 lakh 80 thousand to benefit the elderly and disabled.

The Ministers also gave relief funds of Rs 1 lakh to the family of Thangammal who died of snakebite in Mannachanallur Balayur and welfare schemes of Rs 5ΒΌ lakh to the Christian Women’s Aid Society. Following this, 31 battery-operated garbage collection vehicles were provided to all municipalities in Trichy district on behalf of Kalayanur Urban Development Project at a cost of Rs. 47 lakh. In the program held yesterday, a total of Rs. 1 crore worth of welfare assistance was provided. Trichy Municipal Corporation Mayor Anbazagan, Deputy Mayor Divya, Commissioner Dr. Vaithinathan, District Superintendent of Police Sujith Kumar, Assistant Director (Municipalities) Kaliappan and many representatives of local bodies participated in this event. In the end Chandramohan, Officer of the Disabled People’s Welfare Department, gave a vote of thanks.
